India Cricket Team veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has claimed that he is trying his very best to be fit for the upcoming IND vs ENG Test series. While he is set to miss the opening games, he might make a return midway into the 5-match series. Shami suffered an ankle injury and is yet to feature for India after the ODI World Cup.
Shami has been out of action for quite sometime. He missed the India tour of South Africa owing to his injury. And now his participation in the IND vs ENG is also at risk. But since it is a 5-match Test series, with a lot of time, the BCCI is unwilling to fast-track his return to the team.
“I am trying best to be available for the selection for England The series test match is longer format so you don’t want to be in doubt,” Mohammed Shami told IndiaToday.
Reports claim that Shami is set to miss the first 2 Test matches. He hasn’t resumed bowling but is expected to hit the ground soon. Following which he needs to report to the NCA and pass the fitness tests before being incorporated into the squad. Shami on the eve of receiving his Arjuna award has claimed that he is trying his best to available for the upcoming series.
“Whenever it comes to T20s , many times I don’t understand that whether I am in scene or not. But what I feel is that you have IPL before the T20 World Cup and that is the best opportunity to bring in momentum, and if management will ask me to play, I’ll be available,” Shami concluded.
The BCCI has decided to rest Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj for the IND vs AFG T20I series. In the grand scheme of things, the pace duo are needed more in the 5-match Test series. As a result, the board is also not too keen to rush with Shami’s injury.
