Serena Williams

Deemed one of the few female superstars that have paved the way in Women’s Tennis for the upcoming generation, Serena Williams announced her retirement this year. The 23-times Grand Slam winner, now 41 years old took to Vogue Magazine in August where she announced her retirement from the sport.

She ended her glorious career that has been filled with laurels at the Flushing Meadows. She was defeated in the third round of the US Open 2022, which brought an end to a glorious career.

Roger Federer

Arguably one of G.O.A.T.S (Greatest Of All Times), Roger Federer announced his retirement in 2022. The Swiss superstar completed a glorious 24-year-old journey in the sport where he won 20 Grand Slams. His retirement announcement came barely a fortnight after Serena William’s retirement.

With the tennis world barely recovering from Serena’s retirement, Federer dropped the announcement that he would hang up his boots after the Laver Cup. “Now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career,” Federer said.

Albert Pujols

Albert Pujols announced his retirement from Major League Baseball in a grand way. The 42-year-old first batter for the St. Louis Cardinals was determined to end his career with over 700 home run hits.

Starting the season with a career total of 679 home runs, and a recent bad run of form had everyone doubting that Pujols might fail to reach the 700-run mark. However, things took a turn when he turned up against the tide. He hit 697 home runs and took the spot as the 4th highest player to hit the most home runs. Only Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, and Babe Ruth stand ahead of him. Pujols ended his career with 703 home runs thereby bringing an end to a glorious career.

Rob Gronkowski

In an injury-plagued season, Rob Gronkowski called it an end to his career in 2022. The 33-year-old who helped the New England Patriots dominate the sport for almost 20 years failed in the playoffs to the Los Angeles Rams.

Gronkowski was crucial in helping Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady win the Super Bowl a year earlier.

French winger Franck Ribery hung his boots in October of 2022 as the 39-year-old brought an end to a long and illustrious career. After having dominated football for over 10 years, Ribery finished his career with Salernitana.

Ribery won the prestigious UEFA Champions League back in 2013 and during his time at the mighty Bayern Munich, he managed to rope up 151 goals and 224 assists.

Gerard Pique

Barcelona legend Gerard Pique shocked the footballing world by announcing his sudden retirement midway through the ongoing La Liga season.

In a tearful farewell, Pique left the sport on 5th November. He started the match as the skipper of the Cules and left the ground in the 84th minute to a standing ovation from the Camp Nou crowd with a 2-0 win over Almería.

Sebastian Vettel

The four-time World Champion, Sebastian Vettel shocked the racing world when he announced his retirement from F1 earlier this year in the summer. The youngest-ever F1 champion won back-to-back 4 World Driver Championships with Red Bull racing from 2010 to 2013.

Vettel made a switch to Ferrari in 2017 and ended his stint with Aston Martin in 2022.
