WWE Superstars continue to call for a blue tick on Twitter; Elon Musk decides to give verified badges to users with a million followers

Twitter has once again experienced a technical malfunction, but this time, it has sparked considerable controversy among its users. It seems that Twitter has been awarding Blue Check verification badges to accounts with a minimum of one million followers, even if the account owners have not registered for the subscription service. Furthermore, some of these account owners are deceased, resulting in perplexity and indignation from their followers.

During the weekend, numerous Twitter users with supposedly more than one million followers were taken aback to discover that their Blue Check verification badges, which had vanished after Elon Musk’s recent removal of legacy verified accounts, had been restored. Nevertheless, many of these users were dissatisfied with the abrupt alteration since they do not endorse Twitter Blue, the subscription service that provides extra functionalities to users for a monthly charge

The blue verification badges were restored on certain accounts on Saturday. However, it would be erroneous to assume that these accounts are verified solely because they are enrolled in Twitter Blue, the premium service that costs $8 per month. It is important to mention that Twitter Blue supplanted the previous free verification system that was introduced to combat misinformation and impersonation on the platform.
