WWE Payback 2023: Date, Venue, Confirmed Fights, TV Channel, Start Time and More

Now that SummerSlam is over, WWE is focusing on Pittsburgh’s Payback on September 2. The occasion starts the countdown to Survivor Series, the following of WWE’s “big four” pay-per-views.

On Saturday, September 2, 2023, the planned 2023 Payback event will be held at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, over the Labour Day holiday weekend. This is the first Payback since 2020 and the first time a Saturday and September date have occurred together.

The main card starts at 8 PM ET.

When Will WWE Payback Start And Which Are The Confirmed Fights

In the US on Peacock and in Australia on Binge, you can watch the livestream.

Confirmed Fights

World Heavyweight Championship — Seth Rollins (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura:

Following their participation in a six-man tag bout, Nakamura turned on Rollins, to which Rollins offered Nakamura a chance to win the belt “any time.” Additionally, Nakamura spoke softly into Rollins’ ear, clearly jolting the champion. Later, Nakamura would admit that he had informed Rollins that he would kill him because he knew his back was weakening and that he was in constant pain.

Women’s World Championship — Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Raquel Rodriguez:

Before Ripley hurt Rodriguez’s knee, he and Rodriguez got into a number of fights. Before assaulting Rodriguez once more, Ripley also attacked Rodriguez’s tag partner and buddy Liv Morgan. Rodriguez was unable to return to the ring for several weeks due to medical issues. After being freed, Rodriguez attacked Ripley and then said that she had booked a bout with the title for Payback.

Trish Stratus vs. Becky Lynch (Steel Cage Match):

For months, Stratus and Lynch have been at odds with one another. In their most recent matches, Zoey Stark’s interference resulted in the conclusion of one match and a violent brawl that resulted in a countout in a match where she was prohibited from being at ringside. Adam Pearce scheduled a cage match for Payback to try and make sure the two women can conclude things without any outside intervention. It goes without saying that matches intended to “prevent outside interference” virtually invariably do.

United States Championship — Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Austin Theory:

After defeating LA Knight with assistance from The Miz in a No. 1 contender’s match on SmackDown, Theory earned a rematch against Mysterio. The U.S. title was won by Mysterio over Theory on a previous SmackDown edition. After Santos Escobar was sidelined by Theory the night before their scheduled match, Mysterio filled in for his wounded LWO partner.

The Miz vs. LA Knight:

Throughout various WWE programming, Miz and Knight have traded insults. Miz cost Knight a U.S. title opportunity on SmackDown. Knight retaliated by making an appearance on Raw and helping Akira Tozawa defeat Miz in an unexpected way. The Payback match was confirmed by SmackDown commentators during the Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt tribute programme.
