WWE News: WWE Reportedly Never had the Tag Team Title Unification Plan at WrestleMania Backlash
Last week on Friday Night SmackDown, the Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns showed up during the contract signing for the title unification. Later, he tore the contract in the process by assaulting RK-Bro. Meanwhile, former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre came to aid RK-Bro, which eventually ended up in a brawl with Roman Reigns.

Later, WWE announced a 6-man tag team match between RK-Bro and The Uso adding Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre. At WrestleMania Backlash, both teams will clash in a 6-man tag team match.
A recent report from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio stated WWE never actually planned to add both tag team champions in a tag unification match. Precisely, WWE wanted to add Roman Reigns in the main event which did happen.

“The little bit we do know is that the six-man tag match was always the planned match. There was never a plan to do the unification match. So while most feel this was the usual weekly plans changed, it was not. That also explains why last week nobody would confirm Reigns vs. McIntyre to me, only that Reigns would be in the main event.”

Earlier, WWE had no new opponent after Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar. However, many fans speculated Shinsuke Nakamura to be Reigns’ next opponent, but he wasn’t. Eventually, WWE wanted to add The Tribal Chief at the main event of WrestleMania Backlash. Later, WWE added Reigns to the main event at WrestleMania Backlash.
Further, the report stated WWE had no actual plans to unify the tag team titles. Meltzer said, “As far as if they will do the unification match, the short answer is it’s up to Vince McMahon. The belief is that it’s a bad idea since they are not merging brands. There is no date nor plan to follow up on it.” [H/T Sportskeeda]
