In a recent Twitter post, WWE official asked its fans to comment on which iconic moment they cried tears of joy. More than 2k comments poured in describing numerous moments that have happened over the years at WWE. But, the one which caught the most attention was  – When Kofi Kingston won the WWE Title. It was commented on by none other than WWE Superstar Mustafa Ali.

Kofi Kingston has always been an underrated superstar at WWE, who rose to fame by pairing up with Xavier Woods and Big E to form the dynamic trio of “The New Day”. But things really worked out for him during the 35th edition of WrestleMania. During this time, he would play around 75 matches where he would win 69 of them to finally face Daniel Bryan at the title match. In doing so, Kofi became the first ever African-born WWE Champion.

Kofi held his title for 180 days and defended it 7 times during different PPV events. Clashing against the likes of Big E, Samoa Joe, and Dolph Ziggler. Mr 24/7 finally lost the title in the hands of “the Beast ” Brock Lesnar at the 20th Anniversary of SmackDown.

WWE News: Looking back at Kofi Kingston’s road to WWE Championship

Kofi Kingston was always known as a prominent highflier and tag team player for the most part of his time with the network. He was never a brawler or powerhouse inside the ring but, was always entertaining to watch as he made numerous appearances with his Tag team trio “The New Day”.

From the year 2008 to 2013, Mr. 24/7 became a four-time Intercontinental Champion and a three-time united states champion. He was also a 14-time tag team champion. But, his career reached its peak when he won the WWE Championship by defeating Daniel Bryan in a one-on-one match at WrestleMania 35.

His WWE Title journey started with the gauntlet match where he first squared off against Bryan and defeated him, before facing off against the iconic Jeff Hardy and defeating him too. Then came Randy Orton to finally take the match with Samoa Joe, where he defeated the brawler against all odds down. But the seed of rebellion was already planted. Soon, the popularity of Kofi skyrocketed.

He faced Bryan once again during the Elimination chamber but was defeated by a narrow margin. Though Bryan won the match, Kofi won the hearts of the spectators. He was no longer an underrated tag team guy. He was the main talk of the town. He would later prove his worth by defeating The American Dragon in a title match at WrestleMania 35.

Kofi Kingston became the wind of change in WWE and he deserved the championship.
