As per Dave Scherer of PWInsider, WWE is still hoping to have Daniel back on board, although he is technically been released from the company.

Daniel Bryan was last seen on WWE Smackdown in late April 2021, where he had a Universal Championship match against Roman Reigns. The bout had a condition that stated if Bryan loses, he will have to leave the Blue brand, and that is what happened. At the culmination of the bout, Bryan got defeated only to be never seen again in WWE.

At the same time, WWE’s biggest rivals, All Elite Wrestling (AEW), almost confirmed having Bryan onboard. The current status of Bryan and AEW has been described as 100% locked in y sources of Bodyslam.net’s Cassidy Haynes, and he is expected to make his debut at AEW’s Grand Slam show at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City on 22 September.
Bryan heading to AEW is a “done deal,” and it would be a huge surprise if he ends up anywhere other than AEW. According to Dave Meltzer, “unless something falls apart, they’re both coming in.”
