WWE Coming to India: WWE History In India
In 1996, WWE embarked on their first tour of India, marking the start of their journey in the country. After a hiatus of six years, WWE made a comeback in November 2002, entertaining fans in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. The wait was even longer for the next event, which took place in January 2016 in New Delhi, 13 years after their previous visit. However, WWE made up for lost time by organizing a two-day extravaganza. In December 2017, WWE Live India Supershow took place at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, providing fans with yet another exciting opportunity to witness their favourite wrestlers in action.
WWE Coming to India: After UFC-WWE Media Merger, WWE Is Reportedly Set to Return In India, Fans React- ‘What About Pakistan?’Some Indian fans expressed excitement at the rumour of WWE’s return. One fan tweeted, “Any chance of WWE or AEW coming to India?” In response, wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer said, “Don’t know about AEW. WWE will come after the big media merger is complete.”

However, some fans felt left out by the focus on India. One Pakistani fan responded, “What about Pakistan?”. While Pakistan also has a dedicated wrestling fanbase, the country poses greater logistical challenges for WWE to run a tour there compared to India. There is no word yet on whether WWE has any current plans to return to Pakistan.
WWE and the new Sony-Zee group have not confirmed any dates for live events in India. However, What if WWE announces a tour of India in the coming months would not be surprising, given the company’s desire to reestablish a presence in the lucrative Indian market and the media partnership now in place. For fans in both India and Pakistan holding out hope to see WWE live in their country again, the revived partnership between WWE and Sony-Zee may be an encouraging sign.
