Before his big match with WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes was on a high after winning the Royal Rumble Match.
The dream, however, changed into a nightmare between WrestleMania and the episode of Raw the following night. In addition to losing controversially to Reigns in the WrestleMania main event, Rhodes was unexpectedly ambushed by ‘The Beast’ Brock Lesnar just before the two were about to engage in a tag team match against Reigns and Solo Sikoa on Raw.
As the Raw After WrestleMania drew to a stunning finish, The Beast brutalized Rhodes to an unsettling and disturbing degree, destroying him with steel chairs and the ring steps. Since then, Cody Rhodes has been trying to get Brock Lesnar to agree to a match at WWE Backlash 2023, and The Beast finally accepted Rhodes’ challenge on the April 17 episode of Raw.

Cody Rhodes’ newly discovered feud with Brock Lesnar, expected to begin at Backlash, should lay the groundwork for his journey to and beyond WWE SummerSlam 2023.
