Why Did Jey Uso Lose Against Roman Reigns At SummerSlam 2023?

Jey Uso failed to win against Reigns at SummerSlam because WWE never had plans of Jey Uso defeating or dethroning Roman Reigns.

Recently, Dave Meltzer spoke to McGuire on Wrestling. He stated that the company never had plans of Jey Uso winning against Reigns at SummerSlam, due to plans that lie ahead.

He said “I’d never heard anyone even discuss that as a possibility. Yeah. You know, I mean, look, they’ve already got, you know, whatever it is, they’ve got plans going for Roman as a champion for months down the line. So Jey wasn’t gonna win.

Hence, Jey lost to Reigns at the PPV event.

The match began with Reigns dominating Jey. The latter gained strength and nailed an Enziguiri. However, Reigns unleashed kendo stick shots on Jey and the taunt continued.

The tables soon turned and Jey Uso got the upper hand. He nailed the Uso Splash and smashed Reigns with a steel chair. He then delivered a Samoan Drop and took out a leather strap. He hit Reigns with the Strap as Reigns walked away. Meanwhile, Solo Sikoa came out and attacked Jey.

Solo and Reigns tried to take down Jey but the latter escaped and Reigns speared Sikoa. Jey then went on to decimate Reigns. The match spilled out to ringside, however back in the ring, Jey nailed a Spear followed by a Uso Splash. As Jey was about to win, Jimmy Uso appeared and super-kicked Jey. In the meantime, Reigns speared Jey and pinned him for the win. Thus, Roman Reigns defeated Jey Uso to retain the title and the recognition of the Tribal Chief.
