Extreme Rules 2012 was the first match for Brock Lesnar after his return to WWE, since Wrestlemania 20, where he was booed out of the building because of his disastrous match with Goldberg. But now he came back to face his opponent Cena. Cena on the other hand, has just faced a defeat at Wrestlemania 28 at the hands of none other than The Rock.

John Cena, defying everything else became successful in defeating Brock Lesnar but the victory came with a steep price. In their much-anticipated bout, Lesnar made sure to punish Cena’s arm. Lesnar trapped Cena’s arm in a Kimura lock midway through their clash. Cena also took an elbow at the beginning of the match that split his head wide open and successfully beat Lesnar by a narrow margin. However, the obvious injury received by Cena was the laceration to his head, which caused a surplus of bleeding. WWE locker room physician stated that “He also suffered a shoulder injury.”

At the end of the match, John Cena grabbed a microphone with blood trickling down his face and stated that he will be “taking a break” and was “going away for a while”. It all sounded extremely melancholic.
However, one day later Cena appeared on Raw with a few muscle strains on his arm, all the while wearing a sling to heal up faster. Michael Cole also stated that there were no signs of “structural” damage to his arm.
