U23 World Wrestling Championships Day 1 results: Disappointing day for India as Greco Roman wrestlers are knocked out
Sunil Kumar began his campaign in the Greco Roman 87 kg category, beating Croatia’s Filip Smetko in qualification. However, that good start did not last long, as Kumar fell to defeat against Aleksandr Andreevitch Komarov in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Arshad suffered defeat in the quarter-final clash to Turkey’s Adem Burak Uzun. The Indian wrestler could only muster a single point during the bout, as Adem Burak sealed a comfortable 4-1 victory by points.
Meanwhile, Neeraj was also knocked out in the quarter-finals and had a tough night as he was completely outplayed by his Iranian opponent. Neeraj failed to muster a single point as he lost 9-0, exiting the competition.
Sajan also lost his bout, going down to Ukraine’s Dmytro Vasetskyi in qualification. The Indian wrestler failed to muster a single point and lost by superiority, losing 9-0.
