On Day 1, Sajan Bhanwal will begin his campaign in 77-kg category while Sunil Kumar will be in the 87-kg category. In 130kg-catgeory, Aryan Panwar will be competing against Turkey’s Fatih Bozkurt in the pre-quarterfinals.
U-23 World Wrestling Championships Day 1 Live: Sajan Bhanwal will face a tough test from Dmytro Vasetskyi of Ukraine in the qualification round while Sunil Kumar will be up against local favourite Filip Smetko of Serbia in the qualification round.
In 130-kg category, Aryan Panwar, who bagged a silver medal in the Junior Asian Championships in 2017 returned empty handed from 2019 World Championships. He won the qualification round.
Sajan Bhanwal , bronze medallist of Matteo Pellicone Ranking series in 77kg, will aim to do better. The 22-year-old had a first-round exit in the Senior World Championships but the experience will be of a great help for the young wrestler.
In 87kg, Sunil Kumar had a disappointing exit in the senior World Championships. He exited from the qualification round. His best finish has been a Gold medal in the 2020 Asian Championships.
