Prominent wrestlers of the country Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik have been protesting for nearly a fortnight. They are sitting at Jantar Mantar since April 23 demanding action against WFI Chief Brij Bushan Saran Singh, who, has been accused of sexually harassing at least seven female wrestlers, including a minor.

Speaking at an event on Friday, when Ganguly was asked about the issue, he said, “Let them fight their battle. I really don’t know what’s happening there, I just read in the newspapers.”

“I realised one thing in the sports world, that you don’t talk about things which you don’t have complete knowledge of. I hope it gets resolved. Wrestlers bring a lot of accolades to the country & hopefully, it will be resolved,” he added.

Earlier, the Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and India’s World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev have backed the protesting wrestlers.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Thursday closed the proceedings on a plea by three women wrestlers, who have levelled sexual harassment allegations against Brij Bhushan Singh, after noting that FIRs have been registered and seven complainants have been provided adequate security.

A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud refused to entertain an oral plea by the counsel representing the wrestlers that the ongoing probe be monitored by a retired or a serving high court judge. The Wrestlers however are continuing the protests.
