Senior Nationals Wrestling – Geeta Phogat is Back: Indian wrestling legend Geeta Phogat is making a comeback. The 33-year-old Geeta, who became a mother in December 2019, participated in Haryana State Championship to announce her comeback to the sport. Geeta won the state championship by defeating very talented Junior World Championship Silver medal winner Bhateri.

The legend of Indian women wrestling will now be seen in action at the Senior National Championships in Gonda starting from November 13th.

Geeta Phogat is Back: Geeta is likely to compete in 62Kg category at the nationals, category in which national champion Sonam Malik, Rio Olympics medallist Sakshi Malik competes.

Sonam also represented India at the Tokyo Olympics this year.
Geeta is India’s first female wrestler to qualify for the Summer Games in London 2012. She was the first Indian woman to win an international wrestling gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

Geeta Phogat’s Achievements

2009 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship: Phogat first came to limelight when she won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Championships in Jalandhar.

2010 Commonwealth Games.She won India’s first ever gold medal in women’s wrestling at the Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi, beating Emily Bensted from Australia in the gold medal match.

2012 World Wrestling Championships:Her big moment came when she first represented India at 2012 Olympics and also won a bronze medal at the 2012 World Wrestling Championships in Canada. Other than this she has Asian Championship medals to her credit.
