How Brock Lesnar Outearned Ronda Rousey

During her time in the UFC, Ronda Rousey became a household name thanks to her dominant performances in the cage. She was the first female fighter to sign with the promotion, and her success helped to expand the women’s division.

Rousey held the bantamweight title from 2012-2015, defending it six times during that period. However, despite her success in the octagon, Rousey’s UFC career earnings are significantly lower than those of other top earners in the sport.

Brock Lesnar, for example, earned a reported $5 million for his UFC 200 fight against Mark Hunt in 2016. This was Lesnar’s first UFC fight in over four years, and he was coming off a stint in the WWE. Despite his long absence from the octagon, Lesnar was still able to command a significant payday due to his star power and drawing ability.

In comparison, Rousey’s highest reported payday for a UFC fight was $1 million. This came in her final UFC fight against Amanda Nunes in 2016, which she lost via TKO. While $1 million is certainly nothing to scoff at, it pales in comparison to the earnings of other top fighters in the sport.

Another factor that may have played a role in Rousey’s lower earnings is her decision to transition to professional wrestling. Rousey made her WWE debut in 2018 and quickly became one of the top stars in the company.

In conclusion, while Ronda Rousey was certainly a trailblazer for women’s MMA and helped to expand the women’s division in the UFC, she was not able to command the same level of earnings as some of the other top fighters in the sport. Brock Lesnar, who was also a major draw for the UFC, was able to command significantly higher paydays thanks to his star power and drawing ability.
