Phew, what a ride it was! Triple H deserves his flowers for making the storylines so much better as compared to what they used to be a decade ago. The fans witnessed a historic day as the WWE hosted it’s first Premium Live Event (PLE) of 2025, the Royal Rumble in Indianapolis. It was a crazy car wreck, involving four matches, including the two Royal Rumble clashes as well. The Queen Charlotte Flair had her return in grandeur style, becoming the first-ever superstar to win multiple Women’s Royal Rumble matches. But we are here to talk about the Men’s Royal Rumble match, which was a classic and will go down in the history books. Below we discuss why it was one of the all-time greatest Men’s Royal Rumble matches.
Surprise entrants despite a stacked Royal Rumble
No Royal Rumble is complete without unexpected participants, and this year’s lineup did not disappoint. The biggest shock of the night came when Joe Hendry, TNA’s World Champion, walked through the curtain. The WWE Universe erupted as he stepped into a WWE ring for the first time, proving his immense fan following. They “believed in Joe Hendry.” He had a strong showing before falling to Roman Reigns, but his appearance alone set social media on fire.
Then there was IShowSpeed, the viral sensation. Originally, Akira Tozawa was set to enter at No. 8, but after a backstage attack, Speed was thrown into the match by Triple H himself. While his time in the ring was short-lived—courtesy of a brutal Spear from Bron Breakker—it was an unforgettable moment that blurred the lines between entertainment and pro wrestling. WWE needs fresh faces to become it’s fans and what better way to have one of the most viral sensations of the world inside the holy ring? Damn, he even eliminated Otis, which was something hugely unexpected. Despite this year’s Royal Rumble insanely stacked, we still got some huge surprises!
Not to forget, we also had the return of AJ Styles, who was out with an injury but has recovered well before he was expected to! He also had his old theme song back, receiving insane pop from the Indianapolis crowd.
Masterful storytelling by Triple H
Casual watchers might disagree but Triple H has cooked! The match served as a crucial chapter in the ongoing war between Seth Rollins, CM Punk, and Roman Reigns. The tensions between these three were off the charts, culminating in Punk eliminating both Reigns and Rollins in one of the most shocking moments of the night. Rollins, furious over his elimination, took out his anger on both men, stomping Reigns into the steel steps. It’s clear this story is just getting started, and fans are eagerly awaiting the fallout. The rumours might be true that we won’t be getting the Rock in the Wrestlemania and thus booking this trio would be insane!
Beyond that, we witnessed future dream match teases that set the internet ablaze. The stare-down between Jacob Fatu and Roman Reigns was a moment that felt like a preview of a future bloodline war. Penta vs. Reigns and Penta vs. Rey Mysterio also had the crowd buzzing, proving that WWE was planting seeds for incredible matchups down the road.
The most unexpected ending possible ft. YEET
No one—and I mean no one—expected Jey Uso to win the Royal Rumble. The former right-hand man of Roman Reigns had long been seen as a supporting player, but on this night, he took center stage. In a thrilling final sequence, he outlasted John Cena, who was obviously competing in his last-ever Royal Rumble. Cena’s elimination left the WWE Universe stunned, and now the biggest question remains—who will Cena face at his final WrestleMania match? Jey Uso is likely to challenge Gunther for the title but we have already seen that multiple times before. We think it might not be that straightforward and there something interesting in the line as well.
