CWG 2022: Safety breach in wrestling venue: The wrestling events at the Commonwealth Games was brought to a halt after a security breach inside the venue. The organisers decided to take swift action, and the fans inside the stadium were also asked to leave their seats. It happened a couple of matches after India’s Bajrang Punia and Deepak Punia’s win.
This comes as a major drawback with it being the opening day of the competition in wrestling. The CWG 2022, until then, had not witnessed any such kind of stoppages due to safety issues.

However, they later stated that the matches are going to resume in an hour. However, there was no official explanation on the matter.

As for the Indians in the fray, the day got off to a brilliant start. Bajrang Punia and Deepak Punia have reached the quarterfinals of their respective competition. Bajrang defeated Lowe Bingham with pinfall while Deepak cruised past Mathew Oxenham 10-0 with technical superiority.
Other Indian athletes like Anshu Malik, Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Sonam Malik are yet to feature in the wrestling mats at the CWG 2022.
With India fielding a strong team, the Indians are expected to take home a flurry of medals from Birmingham. Some of the favourites for gold medals are Bajrang Punia, Deepak Punia, Ravi Kumar, Vinesh Phogat among other.
