WWE Royal Rumble 2022: Universal Championship match set- Universal Championship will be defended at the Royal Rumble PPV event on Sunday, January 29, at The Dome in St Louis, Missouri. Champion Roman Reigns, who has almost smashed everyone on the Smackdown roster, will put his title on the line against his former Shield brother Seth Rollins, who happens to be from Monday Night Raw.

WWE Royal Rumble 2022: On the very first Smackdown of 2022, Adam Pearce was given a task at hand to finalize a challenger for Roman Reigns at the Royal Rumble PPV event. Pearce approached Reigns in the latter’s locker room suite. However, the authority figure was sent out by the champion, who was busy watching his cousin’s The Usos on the TV defending their tag-titles against the New Day in the main event of the night.

Once the match got over, Seth Rollins knocked at Reigns’ door and entered the suite to have a brief staredown with his former Shield brother. The night ended with Rollins laughing at Roman’s face while the latter bristle. Roman seemed upset with Pearce’s pick, but we now have this match served on our plates for the Royal Rumble PPV event.

WWE Royal Rumble 2022: Roman Reigns’ COVID-19 hiatus has forced a change in plans

Roman Reigns was set to defend his title at the WWE Day 1 PPV against the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar. However, when Roman was tested positive for COVID-19, he was forced to miss the PPV event, and eventually, Brock Lesnar had to get instilled in the WWE Championship bout.

Lesnar became the WWE Champion in the fatal 5-way match and will defend the title against the All-Mighty Bobby Lashley at the Royal Rumble PPV event. Monday Night Raw had a clear picture for their top titleholder, but no opponent was decided for Smackdown’s Roman Reigns. Drew McIntyre was pipped to challenge Roman at the Royal Rumble PPV event, but him being out with a neck injury, Seth Rollins was forced to cross brands and enter the Universal Title picture. Seth vs. Roman has always been an epic contest, and we could expect the same at the Royal Rumble PPV.
