WWE no longer employs Matt Riddle.
Riddle announced his retirement and thanked his fans for the years of memories in a message posted on Twitter. The action comes after WWE made significant personnel reductions on Thursday, releasing at least 22 stars or potential stars to clear the way for Endeavor’s acquisition of the company and merger with Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Matt Riddle Released Moments Before His Return To WWE RAW
With his brief career in and out of the WWE ring mercifully coming to a close, Matt Riddle has been let go by the company.
“Just wanted to inform everyone that I’m no longer with WWE,” Riddle wrote in a tweet. “Thank you for the memories and opportunities also thank you to all the fans for the support and love you give me every time I go out to the ring. See you all soon.”
Riddle, a former UFC fighter, started his professional wrestling career roughly ten years ago and joined WWE in 2018. Over the course of his career, he won the WWE United States Championship, the “NXT” Tag Team Championship with Pete Dunne (now known as Butch), and the “Raw” Tag Team Championship with Randy Orton. The #SpeakingOut movement’s significant claims against him, his on-screen rivalry with Seth Rollins, and his numerous drug suspensions—the most recent of which resulted in his removal from television in 2022—were other features of his WWE career. After WrestleMania 39, Riddle made his “WWE Raw” comeback, however, his role was greatly lessened without his injured partner, Orton.
After making headlines earlier this month for an altercation at JFK airport, Riddle disappeared from the news. Fightful Select is now reporting that Riddle hasn’t been backstage or on the road with WWE since he was removed from weekend events and the September 11 episode of “Raw.” This is contrary to earlier reports that his absence was unrelated to the airport altercation and that he would be appearing on “WWE Raw” this week.
