WWE Night of Champions 2023 Results: Bianca Belair vs Asuka

In the early moments of the match, Bianca and Asuka engaged in a back-and-forth battle on the mat. The action spilled to the outside, where Asuka gained the upper hand by hurling Bianca into the steel steps. Asuka dominated for a brief period, but Bianca rallied back. Asuka executed a top rope missile dropkick, but it wasn’t enough to secure the victory. Bianca escaped the Asuka Lock, and both competitors traded near falls. The action returned to the outside, with Asuka becoming the target as she collided with the steel steps. Bianca displayed relentless aggression in the ring, while Asuka attempted to use her mist but was unsuccessful.

Seizing an opportunity with the referee distracted, Asuka resorted to spraying mist onto her hand and thrusting it into Bianca’s eyes during a K.O.D. attempt. Asuka then delivered a devastating kick to Bianca’s head, securing the pinfall victory and becoming the new champion.

Asuka’s triumph at Night of Champions marked the end of Bianca Belair’s dominant reign as the Raw Women’s Champion, lasting over 400 days. Asuka, who had missed a mist attempt earlier in the match, employed a different strategy: spitting the mist onto her hand and smearing it in the champion’s face during the K.O.D. moment, ultimately claiming the title.

Bianca Belair vs Asuka Storyline

Their initial clash occurred at WrestleMania 39 when Asuka emerged as the No. 1 contender, triumphing in an Elimination Chamber match. Despite some mind games from Asuka leading up to the event, their rivalry maintained a friendly tone due to their popularity as babyface competitors. In an engaging and back-and-forth encounter, Bianca Belair triumphed over Asuka, retaining her title and preserving her undefeated WrestleMania record. However, Asuka took a hiatus from WWE programming following WrestleMania and was subsequently drafted from Raw to SmackDown, along with Belair.

During a championship celebration held in Belair’s home state of Tennessee on the May 12 edition of SmackDown, Asuka made a shocking return. Initially appearing as though she was there to congratulate Belair, Asuka revealed her true intentions by spewing blue mist into Belair’s eyes and turning heel. Belair suffered immense pain from the attack. Asuka later disclosed that she had incorporated a new formula infused hot chili pepper into her mist. Although Belair managed to avoid another mist attack the following week when she saved Zelina Vega from Asuka’s assault, she sought revenge at Night of Champions. However, Asuka emerged victorious, securing her fourth singles title on the main roster.
