WTC Final: Injury list grows longer for India, KL Rahul doubtful for the WTC Final, BCCI optimistic about Jaydev Unadkat

India have also been hit by a few injury concerns to two of their crucial players ahead of the WTC Final. KL Rahul has pulled up a hamstring and is likely to be ruled out of the WTC. The LSG skipper is already ruled out of the IPL 2023 season. Rahul was set to play a key role in the middle order for India in WTC. He is also the second wicketkeeper in the squad along with KS Bharat. Along with Rahul, Jaydev Unadkat’s fitness will also be closely monitored.

The left-arm pacer injured his shoulder and has started rehabilitation in NCA. BCCI is optimistic Unadkat will gain full fitness ahead of the WTC final. Along with a 15-member squad, BCCI have also named five standby players. Should either Rahul or Unadkat is ruled out for the summit clash, the standby players can be drafted to the main squad.

“Jaydev is likely out of the match. It’s very unfortuante. He could have added real value to the team and help our batters prepare for Mitchell Starc. We are waiting for a report from the NCA and we will take a call on that. Umran is on standby as a net bowler. It is now up to the selectors whether they want to add him or another pacer to the main squad,” the official said.

India’s Test squad WTC final: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, K L Rahul, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat.
