WTC Final 2023: Another setback for India Cricket Team as KL Rahul is all set to miss the World Test Championship Final. Rahul suffered a thigh injury during LSG vs RCB IPL 2023 match on Monday. After undergoing scans in Mumbai, he has been instructed to undergo surgery. Hence, he will not only miss IPL 2023 but also WTC Final and the West Indies Tour. However, as Shubman Gill is ready to open with Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane could slot into the middle order, forcing Mayank onto the bench. Meanwhile, Jaydev Unadkat is also unlikely and Umran Malik could be on the flight to London as a backup option.

KL Rahul pulled suffered a thigh injury and was in visible pain during Lucknow Super Giants’ IPL 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. After the swelling subsided, Rahul consulted a specialist in Mumbai and had MRI scans. He was advised surgery.

“Rahul still has swelling and it doesn’t look good. But we will only know when we get the scan reports. He has been given anti-inflammatory medicines to reduce the swelling. Once the swelling subsides, he will have the scans. We are still hopeful of him playing in WTC as we have a month to go. But if he does miss out, Mayank is there. It’s too early to take a call,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport on Thursday.

Jaydev Unadkat Injury: Jaydev Unadkat in all likelihood is set to miss the WTC Final. He suffered a shoulder injury while bowling at LSG nets. Unadkat missed his footing while attempting a delivery and landed on his shoulder. He is also currently under observation from BCCI medical team. The left-arm seamer will report to the NCA next week.

“Jaydev is likely out of the match. It’s very unfortuante. He could have added real value to the team and help our batters prepare for Mitchell Starc. We are waiting for a report from the NCA and we will take a call on that. Umran is on standby as a net bowler. It is now up to the selectors whether they want to add him or another pacer to the main squad,” the official said.

India face Australia in the WTC Final 2023 at the Oval on June 7. First bunch of players including head coach Rahul Dravid and support staff will leave for London on May 23. Players out of IPL Playoff race will join them. The rest of the players will join the team after IPL final on May 28.
