WTC Final 2023: Captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid will be nervously waiting on the fitness reports of both KL Rahul and Jaydev Unadkat as the LSG duo suffered injuries in the ongoing IPL 2023. Unadkat suffered a freak training injury as he tripped while bowling, while KL Rahul pulled his hamstring while fielding. Both players have undergone scans with the BCCI and the Lucknow Super Giants nervously waiting for the results. Follow IPL 2023 LIVE Updates on Insidesport.IN

With just over a month to go before the World Test Championship Final, Team India are sweating over the fitness of KL Rahul and Jaydev Unadkat. Rohit Sharma and Co have already been hit with an injury crisis and the duo are the latest additions to a long list of absentees. Unadkat missed the last game, while KL Rahul did not field after his injury. He came out to bat at the fall of the 9th wicket, but could not run.

“It is a sad thing. He (Rahul) pulled his hip flexor, I guess. I do not know how bad it is. The medical team will assess it,” Krunal Pandya said at the post-match presentation.

As per ESPNCricinfo, Jaydev Unadkat had his arm in a sling with an ice pack on his left shoulder. It is learnt that there is no dislocation and the left arm pacer will remain in Lucknow. LSG are in touch with the BCCI medical staff to determine a further course of action.

Rahul’s injury adds to India’s woes. The LSG skipper was expected to open alongside Rohit Sharma or take up the wicket-keeping slot in the middle order. His injury seemed serious, given how the 30-year-old was unable to run. Some consolation was that Rahul denied a stretcher, but was helped off by support staff.

Should there be a tear, Rahul is expected to undergo a lengthy spell on the sidelines. It would be a massive blow to the team who already lost Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant to injuries. With the Asia Cup and the World Cup also on the horizon, Rahul was a key player in India’s scheme of things.

India have until May 22 to name a replacement should the du be ruled out of action. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan are among the options to replace KL Rahul. Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini and possibly Ishant Sharma could be handed a return should Unadkat miss out.
