Wrestlers protest not over, Sakshi, Bajrang slam fake ‘withdrawal’ news

This come days after a group of the top wrestlers from India met with Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday at his official house in the capital.

Wrestlers Protest: Olympic wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia have not disassociated themselves from the protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Sakshi and Bajrang confirmed on social media that their protest will continue, terming that the news of withdrawal from protest is fake.

“Neither we have compromised, nor we will step back. All this is fake, we will not take back this protest. We will stay united and keep protesting for justice. Fake news is being spread to weaken us… The entire nation is against Delhi Police,” Satyawart Kadian, Wrestler and husband of Sakshi Malik told ANI.

Notably, some of the prominent media houses earlier in the day reported that Malik and Co. have ‘distanced themselves’ from the protests. ANI however reported that wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia will rejoin their posts as OSD (Sports) in Indian Railways.

This comes days after a group of the top wrestlers from India met with Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday at his official house in the capital.

Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia met Home Minister Amit Shah at his home to discuss their protest of the WFI chief.

“They shared their concern with the Home Minister. The meeting was long and he listened to everything. But koi decision nhi hua abhi tak (no decision has been reached so far),” a source close to the wrestlers told IANS.

Wrestlers have been protesting outside Jantar Mantar in Delhi since April under the leadership of Bajrang, Sakshi, and Vinesh, accusing outgoing WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexually abusing multiple wrestlers, including a minor.

When they travelled to Haridwar, the wrestlers allegedly stated that they intended to toss their medals into the Ganges.

They made the choice to present the medals to the farmers’ leaders so they could make a decision.
