“It is being heard that we are finished, that’s why we are protesting. For two and a half months the government has not taken any action. We cannot reveal the name of a minor. Otherwise, her name and career will get spoilt,” Sakshi Malik told the media on Sunday.
Such was their determination, the wrestlers spent the night on the footpath creating uproar from around the country. The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs moved quickly to assure that the IOA that a report from the oversight committee was submitted to the government. The seven-member panel has since been disbanded.
While that remains under investigation, the MYAS has urged the IOA to put the WFI Elections on hold. The WFI Elections were scheduled to take place on May 7. The Sports Ministry ruling however wants the IOA to constitute an ad-hoc committee to conduct elections. The Elections will then take place 45 days after the formation of the committee.
