WPL 2023: The Hundred feels ENDAGERMENT from 2nd most expensive Women’s Sports LEAGUE as TOP Australian Stars OPT out of English League for BIG BUCK in WPL, CHECK out
The aforementioned trio was one of the 14 Australian women who signed contracts in Monday’s inaugural WPL auction. The tournament, which is scheduled to start just after the current T20 World Cup, will add to Australia’s elite athletes’ busy 2023 calendar.
Australia will play three Women’s Championship ODIs against Ireland in late July after travelling to England for the multi-format Ashes series in June and July. Australia’s home international summer is scheduled to begin against the West Indies in September, following the run of The Hundred from August 1-27. After that, they compete in the WBBL, followed by a multi-format tour of India.
As a result, a number of prominent players will choose to skip the Hundred and instead take advantage of the rare chance to take a brief break from cricket in August amid the women’s game’s increasingly hectic provincial and international calendar.
Hundred vs WPL salaries
The 14 Australians will earn a collective INR 14.25 crore (about £1.4 million) in the Women’s Premier League, whilst the highest salary in the Women’s Hundred is £31,250.

Although it is believed that Lanning, Gardner, and McGrath all declared themselves unavailable prior to Monday’s auction, it was already clear for some time that the WPL would be substantially more financially advantageous than the Hundred.
In both the men’s and women’s contests, the ECB has frozen 2023 Hundred salaries at levels from the previous season, although the absence of some of the finest players in the world may force a change of heart before the 2024 edition.
