WPL 2023 Auction: WATCH Women in Blue Congratulate Smriti Mandhana as team India Watches SPECIAL Screening of WPL Auction in South Africa, Check Out

At the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction in Mumbai, five franchises created history by becoming the part of the maiden WPL auction which was held in Mumbai. Star Indian opener Smriti Mandhana was expected to be one of the most expensive players at the historic auction. The first player up for grabs, a bidding war triggered for Mandhana who was finally bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a whopping amount of Rs 3.40 crore.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur went to Mumbai Indians (MI) for Rs 1.80 crore. Mandhana, who is also the vice-captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, has been one of the most prolific run-scorers in world cricket and has done wonders for the Indian team at the top of the order.

A total of 1525 players had registered for the inaugural WPL Player Auction and the final list was pruned to 409 players. Out of 409 players, 246 are Indians. 163 are overseas players with eight of them from associate nations. The total capped players are 202, uncapped players are 199 and 8 from associate nations. A maximum of 90 slots are available for the five teams, with 30 being slotted for overseas players.
