“We haven’t decided on the date and venue yet. We will finalise both in a day or two. February 10-11 are the likely dates. But we have to consult with our broadcasting partner as well. The logistics will also have to be considered. Bangalore, Kolkata and Mumbai are the preferred venues. But we will take a call on that in due course,” an IPL GC member told InsideSport.

While there were talks of having a players’ draft, BCCI has decided to go ahead with Men’s IPL style auction. BCCI has set Rs 50, 40 and 20 lakh as the reserved base price for players. For uncapped players, it is Rs 10 lakh and 20 lakh. Teams will have a salary purse of Rs 12 crore each with around 150 player set to be in the auction pool.

Teams will be able to pick 15-18 players with a18 being the maximum squad size. Furthermore, BCCI has allowed 5 overseas players in the Playing XI. But out of the five, 1 has to be from an associate nation.

WPL Schedule: The schedule will be finalised by next week when the IPL governing council meeting takes place. For now, March 4-24 are the dates that have been agreed upon. Instead of multi-city, WPL will be played entirely in Mumbai in three stadiums. But IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal said the board is still consulting its partners on the venues.

“With regard to the venues for the first season, we are still talking. That is a work in progress. We will have to see logistical challenges involved in case it has to be multi-city value or single-city value,” Arun Dhumal told ESPNCricinfo.

Three “reverse pricing” categories—INR 50 lakh, INR 40 lakh, and INR 30 lakh—among the capped players will serve as the starting point for bidding. At the conclusion of the bidding procedure, the hammer price will represent the player’s contracted fee for the competition. There are two types of base prices set at INR 20 lakh and INR 10 lakh for uncapped players.

The Indian board has requested to all cricketers — capped and uncapped — to register online for the WIPL Auction.

WPL Auction Base Price and Auction Rules

  1. The starting point for bidding will be among three “reverse pricing” categories (INR 50 lakh, INR 40 lakh, and INR 30 lakh) among the capped players.

  3. For uncapped players, the base fee comes in two varieties: INR 20 lakh and INR 10 lakh.
  4. The “Auction Register” will then be edited by the five yet-to-be-established franchises in accordance with the IPL’s present procedure to produce a “Auction List,” which will then be put up for bids.
  5. Those who don’t get chosen at the auction but are in the “Registered Available Player Pool” will have another opportunity to be chosen as replacement player (s).
