CHINA thrash INDIA

To be fair, China were always going to be the favourite to win the contest. They are giants of the sport for a reason as well. None of their players lost a single match against the Indians.

The worst part was the nature of the defeat. Though China were always going to be favourite, India men players could not even take a single set. Among all, the biggest disappointment was the show of G Sathiyan.

Sathiyan is looked upon as one of India’s best player, but even he could not do much against Ma Long. He looked decent in the first set, but lost 12-14. As the game progressed, the Indian was outplayed consistently. The other two sets read in the favour of the Chinese, 11-5 and 11-0.

Harmeet Desai looked no different. In fact, he  was thrashed by his Chinese opponent Fan Zhendong 11-2, 11-9 and 11-5. In the other match, Shah Manush Utpalbhai lost to Wang Chuqin 4-11, 5-11, 6-11.

Mixed show

It was a mixed show from India in the competition. The Indian team, who defeated Germany earlier, advanced to the pre-quarterfinals despite losing 0-3 to France at the World Table Tennis Championship. The Indians escaped elimination by the skin of their teeth, entering the round of 16 as one of the higher-ranked best-placed third teams in the group stages.
