World Cup 2023: Jasprit Bumrah – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is optimistic about having Jasprit Bumrah fully fit for the ODI World Cup 2023 set to be held in India from October 5th to November 11. Bumrah, who is out of action due to a back injury recently underwent surgery in New Zealand. The right-arm fast bowler has returned to NCA, with BCCI charting the recovery plan for the speedster in build to the ODI World Cup. Follow World Cup 2023 Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.

The BCCI have also provided major update on Bumrah about his surgery being successful, and pacer being pain free. The fast bowler was advised by the specialist to start his rehab six weeks after the surgery and accordingly, Bumrah has commenced rehab management in NCA from Friday.

For the uninitiated, Bumrah last played for India in October 2022. Since then, the MI pacer has missed Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. The fast bowler was named in the Sri Lanka series, but BCCI paid the price for rushing him up as the back issue again flared up. Bumrah is ruled out of the IPL 2023 and World Test Championship, and Asia Cup 2023.

“His back is in a fragile state right now. Besides, last time Bumrah’s return was hastened. Since he hadn’t fully recovered, he had discomfort while bowling on his return. This time, we are more conservative as a wrong call might even result in a career-threatening injury,” said a BCCI official to Indian Express.

World Cup 2023: BCCI in no hurry to rush Bumrah, pacer likely to make a comeback for ODI World Cup 2023

While there is no confirmation from BCCI about when Bumrah will hit the nets, sources say he will require at least six months to be fully fit. As of now, the 30-year-old’s progress will be monitored by NCA physios and doctors, with VVS Laxman overseeing the same. “It is difficult to set a return date. Once he recovers from surgery, he will undergo rehab and only when the rehab ends we will know when he can come back,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport earlier.

One thing is certain BCCI won’t rush Jasprit Bumrah and give the pacer ample time to rehabilitate before the 50-over World Cup. The MI pacer may be fit by September and play a few practice matches to prove his fitness.
