It was a day to remember for Feng in Oregon. All eyes were on the stars of the event, Sandra Perkovic and Valarie Allman, but the Chinese woman stole the gold with a brilliant show.

In fact, she lead from start to finish. It was her first round throw of 69.12, which proved to be enough. Perkovic and Allman were soon under pressure to deliver their big throws, which never came.

However, it has to be said that Perkovic did give it a big try in challenging Feng. Perkovic managed to throw the disc 68.45, which happened to be  her best of the season. But she knew that she had to do much more than that to topple Feng from the top, which never happened.

Even the favourite was below par. Her best throw was just 68.30, but it helped her win bronze. It was an off day for Allman, who had a foul and a mere throw of 51m too. In fact, the final was just between the three, where Feng stood tall from first to last.

What happened in the 400m? In the men’s 400m competition, there were no major surprises with Michael Norman breezing through to the  finals, clocking 44.30 in the semifinals. All the finalists, who have qualified, ran a sub 45.00. Kirani James and Wayde Van Niekerk, who ran 44.74 and 44.75, will be serious contenders for gold medal in the final.

As far as the women’s semifinal is concerned in the 400m, Miller-Uibo delivered her season’s best at the big stage, clocking 49.55 to qualify for the finals. Besides her, Marileify Paulino was the only other athlete to finish under 50 seconds. She had the second fastest timing at 49.98.
