Women’s IPL: BCCI to reveal WIPL framework – Women’s IPL is soon going to be a reality. Despite repeated calls from former and current women cricketers to organise Women’s IPL, the BCCI remained silent. But struck by Harmanpreet Kaur’s WBBL exploits, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has revealed that it is soon going to happen and the board is working on a framework and will offer a blueprint in the next three months. For some time now, Women’s IPL has gained steady momentum. But the chorus has only gone stronger with Harmanpreet Kaur scoring 406 runs and scalping 15 wickets. She was adjudged the player of the tournament.

“I am extremely happy to see Haranpreet play so well in Big Bash because she had a little bit of tough time in England and Australia. I have seen her play in the semifinals in England a couple of years ago. Her 171 not out was excellent. For a young cricketer to get 171 that too against Australia which is probably the best women’s side in the world is something remarkable. Harman, Smriti, young Shafali, senior-pro Mithali, Jhulan — they are all strengths to this team,” Sourav Ganguly said.

  • As women’s cricket calendar is not as crowded as the men’s slotting in the Women’s IPL will not be difficult.
  • The women’s T20 challenge — a miniT20 tournament during IPL — has been a hit amongst cricketers.
  • Indian women’s players have been regularly playing in overseas T20 leagues such as WBBL, The Hundred etc.
  • The women’s cricketers’ success has propelled BCCI to create a plan for women’s IPL.

I think we have been looking at this for a long time and I hope, you know, sooner this women’s IPL will also start and we will also invite overseas players over there so that they can also share their experience with our domestic players,” Harmanpreet Kaur told ESPNcricinfo.
