“There was a meeting during the IPL final. There are two windows for which a green signal has to be obtained, one in March/April and the second one in September/October. We will also get in touch with ICC to seek a separate window. BCCI could start men’s IPL in May next year,” said the source to ANI.

Both BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah have confirmed that the board has set plans in motion to replace Women’s T20 Challenge with WIPL from 2023. The inaugural edition is expected to be a six-team affair.

Women’s IPL 2023: BCCI mulls March or September window for inaugural WIPL 2023, final decision after discussion with ICC

As per a New Indian Express report, after discussion with various stakeholders inside the board and its commercial partners, BCCI came up with two windows — March and September. However, the September window is unlikely as the Women’s Big Bash League will be held during this period while The Hundred begins in July. It will be followed by the inaugural edition of Women’s Caribbean Premier League.

Hence, the March window before IPL 2023 seems to be the logical choice for BCCI. But a decision will be reached once the BCCI gets ICC’s green signal.

As per the report, the BCCI also held discussions with other boards such as Cricket Australia and England & Wales Cricket Board. The BCCI has received a positive response from the rival board on this and will get their support at the ICC for a separate window.
