Wisden Leading T20 Cricketer: Wisden’s The Cricketer of the Year award is one of the most prestigious awards in the history of cricket. The award is the oldest individual award in the history of cricket and was first awarded in 1889. The primary condition for selection is on the basis of their influence and performance in English cricket season but due to the diversification of the game it has become more inclusive of worldwide performances. Wisden Leading T20 Cricketer in the World for 2022
Suryakumar Yadav took the award home after becoming the second player to score 1,000 T20I runs in a calendar year after Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan. 2022 was SKY’s year, he made 1164 runs in 51 matches while scoring two centuries and nine half centuries. Both of his hundreds were made away from home in Nottingham against England and Mount Maunganui in New Zealand. Although, Surya made almost 200 runs less than Rizwan, his strike rate is 187.43 in comparison to Rizwan’s 134.89.

Out of 9 fifties, three were made in T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Such was his performance that India enjoyed a 70% win percentage in 2022, winning 28 off their 40 matches.

Harmanpreet Kaur has become the first Indian female cricketer to be named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year. Her ODI hundred against England at Canterbury and India’s silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham are the primary reason for her winning the award. Her knock of 143 runs off 111 balls helped India win the series 3-0 and claim their first ODI series victory in England since 1999. Kaur made more than 1000 runs in white ball cricket, scoring 754 runs in ODIs and 524 runs in T20Is.
Chosen primarily for her 143* at Canterbury, Harmanpreet Kaur is the first India Women’s cricketer to be named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year.
