Carlos Alcaraz vs Nicolas Jarry
Being broken twice in a testing encounter would not be everyone’s idea of a confidence booster but Carlo Alcaraz could only see the positives of being pushed out of his comfort zone by Nicolas Jarry at Wimbledon on Saturday.
Chilean Jarry stole a set and threatened to snatch another before the world number one moved into the fourth round with a 6-3 6-7(6) 6-3 7-5 victory on Centre Court.
Daniil Medvedev vs Marton Fucsovics
A year after being banned from playing at the home of grasscourt tennis following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Medvedev has been making up for lost time and he downed Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4 to reach the fourth round on Saturday.
Women’s Singles
Aryna Sabalenka vs Anna Blinkova
Second seed Aryna Sabalenka survived a scare from Varvara Gracheva in the second round at Wimbledon 2023. Having lost the first set, she clinched a come-from-behind 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory. The second seed is now set to face unseeded Anna Blinkova in the third round.
Blinkova is entering the contest after a straight set win against 29th seed Irina Begu. She began her campaign with a three-set victory against Yanina Wickmayer. The Russian will be in action in the third round at the Wimbledon for the first time in her career.
Ons Jabeur vs Bianca Andreescu
Last year’s runner-up Ons Jabeur came from a set down to keep alive her Wimbledon dream with a 3-6 6-4 6-3 victory over former Grand Slam champion Bianca Andreescu on Saturday.
The Tunisian, the first Arab woman to reach a Grand Slam final, struggled to find her best on her first match back on Centre Court since last year’s final.
But with American great Billie Jean King watching on from the Royal Box, the 28-year-old still found a way to win after being outplayed in the opening set by the 2019 U.S. Open champion whose variety flummoxed even the usually versatile Jabeur.
Elena Rybakina vs Katie Boulter
Armed with a menacing serve and steely resolve, Wimbledon champion Rybakina never allowed the partisan crowd to find their full vocal range as she ruthlessly and unceremoniously cut Boulter down with a 6-1 6-1 third-round demolition job.
