The French player would never have expected to be on the Show Court under normal conditions.

But the break helped Serena to recuperate. The US tennis legend won the second set. Although Tan tried to fight back and hold on to her serve to force 12 deuces. But Serena finally broker her serve. From then, it was smooth sailing as she took the second set 6-1.

American superstar Williams boldly saved a match point at 6-5 in the final set before battling into the 10-point match-tiebreak. However, Tan charged back from a 4-0 deficit in that breaker to earn her first grass-court match-win at tour level.
Williams, 40, suffered only her third first-round loss at a Grand Slam event in her legendary career. Her win-loss record at Wimbledon still stands at a staggering 98-14.
