To compound their troubles, Mark Wood has been ruled out of the second Test owing to an injury, whereas Ollie Robinson’s availability is also not certain, given that he is recovering from an injury. Despite the dire circumstances, Strauss remains confident that ECB did the right thing by not selecting the veteran duo of Stuart Broad and James Anderson for this series.

The move has received negative reactions from the English fans, but Strauss is pretty unfazed and has stated “I think the reaction (from the fans) was entirely predictable. You don’t do these things worried about what the reaction is, you do them because you think it’s the right thing to do.”

Speaking on the other alternatives in Matt Fisher and Saqib Mahmood, Strauss said “It’s great to see Matt Fisher and Saqib Mahmood as part of the England set up. I think we’re learning about them all the time and they’re getting more and more comfortable in this group. And as we said right at the start it’s forced some of our senior players to have slightly different roles.”
