WI vs AUS 1st T20: Andre Russell, Obed McCoy script stunning 18-run victory for West Indies against Australia- What appeared to be a sure Australian victory, West Indies made a stunning comeback after Obed McCoy’s 4/26 helped them secure 18-run victory in the 1st T20I in St Lucia. Earlier, Andre Russell kept the hopes alive with his maiden fifty in T20 internationals helped Windies set a 146-run target for Aaron Finch’s Australia. Russell scored a 28-ball 51 after Australia struck early.

The match ebbed and flowed but all in favour of Australia. They won the toss, struck early to leave West Indies rattling in absence of regular captain Kieron Pollard, who is sidelined with a hamstring niggle. Then it was Andre Russell who led the fightback. Having struggled with his form, DreRuss received immense criticism for failing to replicate his franchise cricket form for West Indies. But when it mattered the most, he got to his maiden half-century in T20 internationals. His quickfire 28-ball 51 helped West Indies set a modest 146-run target for Australia.

WI vs AUS 1st T20: But it was still Australia all the way as Matthew Wade and Mitchell Marsh played quickfire knocks of 33 of 14 and 51 off 31 respectively. But Aaron Finch’s Australia imploded. From 108/4, they lost six wickets for just 19 runs and West Indies should that Obed McCoy and Walsh Junior for that.

In the end, no Australian batsman could stay longer at the crease to finish the job and West Indies managed to defend the 145 total and beat the visitors by 18 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

After a long gap of four months from international cricket, Cricket Australia will play their 1st series against West Indies. Captain Kieron Pollard is out with a hamstring niggle.
