New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra scripted history for New Zealand as became their youngest and fastest centurion in a World Cup. The 23-year-old scored a 82-ball century to power the Blackcaps to a 9-wicket win against defending champions England. Rachin remained 123 alongside Devon Conway who smashed 152. While many fans know cricketers connection with India, a few would know his connection with Indian legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid.

Who is Rachin Ravindra?

Rachin Ravindra was born to Indian parents in Wellington in 1999. Rachin’s father, who belongs from Bengaluru, was a big fan of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. His love for the two cricketing legends was so deep that he named his son by combining letters from both players’ name. He took “Ra” from Rahul and “chin” from Sachin and combined the two to come up with the name “Rachin”.

Earlier, Rachin had revealed that he watched the 2019 World Cup as a fan in a bar in Bangalore and was heartbroken after New Zealand’s defeat.

“It is actually quite a story. My dad takes a bunch of age group boys to India (annually) and we were in Bangalore on a senior trip. We were watching the final (2019) in a stock exchange bar,” he told PTI.

“I watched the whole final. It was unbelievable and such a rollercoaster experience with the high and lows of the game. Having Indian supporters around us was pretty cool. It is an experience I will never forget.”, Rachin revealed.

From watching 2019 World Cup in a bar to now scoring a century in his first World Cup match, it has been a dream come true moment for Rachin.
