Alvarez was expected to do admirably against Ryder. Even though he didn’t get the knockout, he defeated a tough opponent with ease on a night when the stakes were extremely high.

The British challenger was knocked out and his nose was damaged by Alvarez, who then cruised to victory with scores of 120-107 on one card and 118-109 on the other two, improving his record to 59-2-2.
Ryder, who is 32-6, had a four-bout winning streak snapped.
It was Canelo’s first match following surgery on his left wrist in March of last year. In his previous four fights, including his defeat to light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol a year prior, he claimed the injury had slowed him down.

Alvarez claimed he wants to become the second two-time light-heavyweight champion and get revenge for his loss to Bivol.
Alvarez scoffed at the notion that Bivol may lose weight and retorted, “Same rules, same terms, same everything.”
There aren’t many fights where Alvarez would enter as the underdog, but the elegant Bivol emerged victorious in the opening round.
