While Israel Adesanya will try to reclaim his lost middleweight belt against Pereira At UFC 287, here’s a look at Izzy’s losses in the UFC.

Before losing his middleweight crown against Alex Pereira, Israel Adesanya had an unsuccessful attempt at the light heavyweight title against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259 in March 2021. Blachowicz successfully defended the 205 lbs gold by beating Adesanya unanimously for all five rounds.

After snatching the middleweight belt from Robert Whittaker, Israel Adesanya landed two successful title defenses against Yoel Romero and Paulo Costa at UFC 248 and UFC 253, respectively. He then went on to challenge Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight belt, which didn’t work out well.

Blachowicz out struck Adesanya and even out-wrestled him. It was Izzy’s toughest clash after Kelvin Gastelum until Alex Pereira knocked him out. After five rounds of war, all three judges scored the contest in favor of Jan Blachowicz.

Israel Adesanya loss against Alex Pereira- UFC 281

Prior to UFC 281, Israel Adesanya had fought Alex Pereira twice in kickboxing. Pereira beat Izzy on both occasions, the first time via decision and the second time via KO. That said, Israel Adesanya’s glorious transition from kickboxing to MMA inspired Pereira to do the same.

After Adesanya denounced his kickboxing nemesis Pereira in an interview, ‘Poatan’ decided to switch to MMA and was picked by the UFC in no time. After three successive wins in the promotion, Pereira was offered the title shot against his former nemesis, Israel Adesanya, at UFC 281.

Israel Adesanya suffered his maiden UFC middleweight loss against Alex Pereira

Izzy was successful in the first few rounds of the fight and was even ahead of his opponent in the judge’s scorecard. Additionally, Adesanya was outwrestling Pereira and had also wobbled him with some good hits.

The tables turned in the final round as Alex Pereira unloaded a flurry of punches that ended Adesanya’s gas tank and left him wobbling against the cage. Referee stepped in immediately and called it a stoppage in favor of Alex Pereira.

Jan Blachowicz and Alex Pereira remain the only two fighters to have beaten Israel Adesanya in the UFC so far.
