Sadeera Samarawickrama takes stunning low catch to dismiss Chris Woakes as England crumbles down

The cricket World Cup has produced some of the best catches. From Santner’s crazy one-handed catch to Sadeera Samarawickrama picking up a blinder off Chris Woakes in the ENG vs SL World Cup clash. The England batter was visually disappointed with the catch but had to walk back to the pavilion as the third umpire gave the ruling in favor of the Sri Lankans.

Samarawickrama takes Stunning Catch

With England already in the backfoot, all it needed was a little bit more pressure for the defending champions to crumble down. And that is exactly what happened. After having played 3 dot balls previously, Chris Woakes was keen to get off to a start and he lashed at the next ball which unfortunately resulted in the batter being dismissed for a duck.

A fine delivery from Rajitha saw Chrish Woakes making a late hack at the ball. A fullish delivery pitched outside the off stump saw a hint of turn away from the batter. Woakes makes a wild attempt to get the ball past his body.

Positioned at the backward point was Sadeera Samarawickrama. The Lankan fielder quickly adjusted his body and attempted a low dive to take a stellar catch. Umpire Ahsan Raza was fine with the catch and indicated the out signal.

On the other hand, after quite a few replays by the third umpire, it was clearly shown that Sadeera Samarawickrama had his fingers underneath the ball when he took the low catch, and the third umpire’s decision came in favor of the fielder. Woakes was left visually angry as he had to depart from the crease without troubling the scoreboard.

England had a major downfall as the defending champions were bowled out for just 156 runs by the Sri Lankans at Bengaluru.
