WATCH: Roshibina Devi breaks down after winning silver, dedicates medal to Manipur

Roshibina Devi was emotional after winning the silver medal at the Asian Games. She dedicated it to the people of Manipur

Asian Games: Roshibina Devi has duly dedicated her silver medal that she won at the Asian Games to the people of Manipur. Hailing from the state that has been witnessing violent ethic clashes over the last few months, the 23-year old was reduced to tears while speaking about her family back home following her medal-winning show on Thursday at Hangzhou.

Roshibina Devi wants peace in Manipur

Her journey to the podium involved a lot of sacrifices and hardships as she has been staying away from her family for many months now. Sometimes she even worries that she may not be able to speak to them again due to the situation in her state.

“I am always worried about their safety. and do not get to go home at all,” she told the reporters in the Mixed Zone following her podium finish. “I cannot help out in the war in Manipur. Those who are fighting, protecting my home, I dedicate my medal to the them,” she was quoted by the Bridge.

“My appeal for peace has no value I know. But I wish things return to the way they were. The fires that are burning go out,” she said battling tears.

Rishibina hails from Bishnupur District in Manipur. Even after the Asian Games, the athlete will not get back to her home. “I cannot return to my village. It is to the hostel, I shall return,” she added.

On Thursday, The youngster took the limelight away from the Indian shooters as she bagged the silver medal. She went down in the final of the Women’s 60kg category against China’s Xiaowei Wu. With this, she became only the second India to bag a silver medal in Wushu in the history of the Asian Games.

“I made some mistakes, which I should not have and I will try and improve and don’t make those mistakes. Have worked hard for this and came here with lot of hope. I wanted to win gold medal for my country but it did not happen today. I will improve further and win gold next time ” she concluded.
