WATCH: Lance Stroll suffers horrific crash in Singapore GP Qualifying

The Aston Martin driver was pushing too hard on his final lap and lost grip.

The Singapore GP is known for its hazards. Every race held here at the Marina Bay Circuit has had a Safety Car. However, Lance Stroll found the barriers today in his Aston Martin during Q1 of the Singapore GP Qualifying. The Canadian was down on his sector times and was pushing to get into Q2, Fernando Alonso having made it. He crashed in the final corner. This brought an end to Q1, hampering a lot of drivers on their flying laps, the closest being Oscar Piastri.

The Aston Martin cars had struggled at the Singapore GP all weekend till the Singapore GP Qualifying. Suddenly in Q1, Fernando Alonso found some pace in the car and began putting in some quick times.

Lance Stroll couldn’t emulate this and found himself in last place on his final flying lap during the Singapore GP Qualifying. He was up on his delta, but with many others improving, he knew he had to get some more time. Therefore, he was pushing very hard.

The Accident

A lap around the Singapore GP is quite long, even with the 4 corners being removed this year. Therefore, drivers start losing tyre grip towards the end of a flying lap. Lance Stroll, having already pushed more, found himself with very little grip in the final sector.

He was already losing the car before the final corner but booted the throttle. Unfortunately, the Aston Martin couldn’t live with it and he spearheaded into the barriers. The impact was so severe that his front-left tyre blew off of its tethers.

Fortunately, Lance Stroll got out of the car unaided. Aston Martin released a statement during the Singapore GP Qualifying itself.

“Lance crashed during qualifying of the Singapore GP.

He got out of the car unaided and was taken to the medical centre for a precautionary assessment. Lance was cleared by the on-site medical team and returned to the team at track.

The AMF1 Team pay tribute to the ongoing work of the FIA and the safety measures of current F1 cars.”
