Conor McGregor’s defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov led to a post-fight brawl, which Dillon Danis has explained his role in.
At UFC 229 in October 2018, Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor, but the night will be most remembered for the unpleasant exchanges that followed. Nurmagomedov focused on Danis, who was in McGregor’s corner, just a few seconds after he used a neck crank to finish off McGregor in the fourth round.

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Cage Jump Against Dillon Danis
Prior to security intervening, Nurmagomedov leaped over the cage and struck Danis. Before engaging in their own altercation with McGregor, Nurmagomedov’s teammates watched from the cage. In a recent conversation with Chael Sonnen, Danis reflected on the chaotic moments and argued that he could have sued Nurmagomedov.
“I could have sued him for a crazy amount of money,” Danis said. “A fighter jumps over the cage when I’m cornering, I’m not paying attention. I’m getting punched from behind, it’s crazy. I obviously took it for whatever it was because that’s just how I am, but it’s f***ed up. In the lead-up, we were all going back and forth with each other.”
Despite McGregor’s best efforts to seduce him into a rematch, Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor before defending his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje. Although ‘The Eagle’ claimed he was upset with McGregor’s entire corner crew, he refrained from attacking coaches Owen Roddy and John Kavanagh due to their disparate ages.
Superfan posted a scene of Khabib vs Dillon Danis from 5 years ago stating:
“On this day 5 years ago, Khabib panic clinched in a brawl with Dillon Danis”
Instead, the undefeated Russian described how he targeted Danis because the rest of McGregor’s team was too old to compete against him.
“I jumped on him because the cornerman were too old,” Nurmagomedov said. “He is almost like my age, if I jumped on Kavanagh I don’t think it’s…. Kavanagh can’t fight me, that’s why I jumped on him [Danis]. I didn’t hear him during the fight because it was too loud, but I don’t like his whole team.”
