WATCH Jonny Bairstow carry Stop Oil protestor off Lord’s pitch in Ashes Test

England's Jonny Bairstow had to intervene to remove one of the protesters from the field.

The second Ashes Test match at Lord’s Cricket Ground was halted for few minutes after two Just Stop Oil protestors invaded the pitch. The incident took place just after the first over of the match when protesters managed to breach the security cordon and entered the field of play, scattering orange powder paint in the air.

While one of the protesters was swiftly tackled to the ground by security officials, the other found himself face-to-face with Jonny Bairstow. The wicketkeeper batter promptly picked up the intruder and carried him off the field.

Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin had a funny take on the incident as he tweeted, “Good start to the 2nd test. Bairstow has done some heavy lifting already”.

Meanwhile, England captain Ben Stokes was also seen attempting to halt one of the protesters, who donned a white T-shirt with the words ‘Just Stop Oil’ written across it. However, Stokes was soon intercepted by a Lord’s steward who pushed the protestor down.

Despite the brief interruption, the match carried on. Bairstow took a moment to change his shirt before reappearing on the field. Play resumed shortly after.

The Police later arrested the pitch invaders and took them in custody.

Earlier, England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to field first in n overcast condition.

This not the first time Just Stop Oil protestors disrupted sports. Earlier, the protestors invaded the World Championship Snooker tournament. They also disrupted the Epsom Derby with their protests.
