Manchester City shared the spoils with Liverpool at Etihad in an eventful evening. Erling Haaland and Trent Alexander Arnold scored for their respective teams in a highly intense Man City vs Liverpool showdown. However, a spat between Uruguay and Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez and Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola after the match grabbed the headlines.

A few seconds after the final whistle blew in the Etihad, the cameras zoomed in on Nunez, who was restrained by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after the altercation with City manager Pep Guardiola.

After initially shaking hands, Nunez appeared to have something to say to Guardiola, who appeared bewildered. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp quickly pulled Nunez away from the scene, but Guardiola continued to argue with Nunez in a heated exchange. After Nunez was removed, Guardiola still argued with some of the Liverpool backroom staff.

In an interview after the match, however, the Man City manager dismissed the incident claiming, “Nothing happened there.”

Nunez set up Liverpool’s equalizer but missed a number of good chances. He showed his frustration after the end of the game. In the first half, Manchester City striker Haaland scored his 50th goal of the Premier League. The goal made him the fastest player in the history of the competition to reach this milestone in just 48 games – 17 less than anyone else.

But Liverpool persevered and finally got their equaliser with 10 minutes remaining on the clock. Nunez’ pass fell to Trent Alexander Arnold. Alexander-Arnold’s thunderous low shot beat Brazilian Ederson to secure a point in an engaging Man City vs Liverpool game.

Looking at the outcome of the match, frustration may have very well played a part in the spat between Darwin Nunez and Pep Guardiola.
