For the unversed Williamson suffered a knee injury while attempting to take a high catch near the boundary rope while playing his first match for Gujarat Titans during IPL 2023 season. The Kiwi star was ruled out of the IPL and subsequently underwent surgery. Kane Williamson: Williamson begins light batting sessions ahead of ODI World Cup

With the latest video of a light batting session, Williamson has given hope to New Zealand and fans of his potential return to the World Cup squad. The right-hand batter is not only the leader for the Kiwi side in the ODI format but is also their most experienced player.

During the last World Cup, the 33-year-old was New Zealand’s highest run-scorer amassing over 550 runs. Naturally, Williamson is the big match player and is the team’s enforcer.

However, while speaking about recovery, the New Zealand skipper said he is taking one week at a time and said the journey won’t be completely smooth.

“Very much just trying to keep it week-to-week at the moment. I haven’t had such a long-term injury before but talking to other people that have, the journey is a bit of a long one so if you look too far ahead, it probably can become a little bit daunting,” Williamson was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“Whereas, one week at a time, ticking off those small markers, those little wins that are nice to experience. But also knowing that the journey won’t be completely smooth and you have a few setbacks along the way that you have to navigate,” he added.
