Virat Kohli Sacked: Angry Kohli keeps phone switched off – Virat Kohli is clearly unhappy with BCCI’s move to remove him as the ODI skipper and install Rohit Sharma. As per his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma, Kohli has kept his phone switched off since the 131-character announcement ahead of South Africa tour. Sharma also slammed president Sourav Ganguly and BCCI for their lack of transparency. Follow India Tour of South Africa Live Updates on InsideSport.IN.

That one of the most successful ODI captains of India was removed with just 48 hours notice should tell you why Kohli might feel betrayed. Since the announcement, Virat Kohli hasn’t posted anything on his social media platforms not even a single word congratulatory message for Rohit Sharma.

“I haven’t talked to him (Virat Kohli) yet. His phone is switched off for some reason. But as far as my opinion is concerned, he had specifically stepped down from T20 captaincy and the selectors should’ve straightaway asked him to step down from both the white-ball formats or not step down at all,” Rajkumar Sharma said on Khelneeti podcast.

Why do so Many Love to Hate Outgoing T20 Captain Virat Kohli?

While stepping down from T20I captaincy after T20 World Cup, Kohli reiterated that he wanted to remain the leader of the ODI and Test teams. But the selection committee had a different idea.

InsideSport earlier revealed that BCCI gave Virat Kohli 48-hour ultimatum to step down voluntarily. They believe having two white-ball captains could complicate situations even though India’s women’s team has two white-ball skippers.

A day after the announcement, Ganguly said he had requested Kohli not to step down from T20I captaincy. But Rajkumar Sharma dismissed that saying, Kohli didn’t have such a conversation with Ganguly.

“I read Sourav Ganguly’s comments recently that they had asked Kohli to not step down from T20I captaincy (before the World Cup). I don’t recall anything like that. This statement came as a surprise to me. There are different statements circulating around,” Sharma said.

Sharma also took on the selection committee for a lack of transparency as Kohli has been one of the most successful ODI captains.

“It’s a pity how this has happened. He has been such a successful one-day captain. The selection committee doesn’t provide a reason behind the decision. We don’t know what the management or the BCCI or the selectors want. There’s no clarification, no transparency at all,” Rajkumar Sharma said.

On Saturday, Virat Kohli finally broke his social media silence only to wish Anushka Sharma on their marriage anniversary. He remained silent on the captaincy. However, Anushka Sharma shared a cryptic message while wishing Kohli.

“And you are the most secure man I know! Like I’ve said earlier, fortunate are those who really know the real you, the soul behind all the achievements, the man behind all the projections cast upon you. May love, honesty, transparency and respect guide us always,” she said.
